It's a boy!

Friends, family, readers far and near,

Meet the newest member of the Petree Family: Knox Hill Petree!

He's very sweet and very mellow, a total snuggle bunny. We named him "Knox" for Knoxville, TN where Jason's beloved Tennessee Vols play and "Hill" for my own dear Chapel Hill. At this point we are accepting any and all advice on raising and training and indoor/outdoor dog. Book suggestions are most welcome!

  1. Very cute! My first suggestion is to buy the best quality carpet cleaner possible so that you don't have to worry about stains from those accidents/spills.

Congratulations! He's a handsome puppy. Checkout "puppy diapers" to help keep your floors from being stained and scented in the wrong way.

Ah yes, those wonderful 6am walks outside to let the little critter do his business. Can't you just taste the cold fresh air.

    Good luck.

There is special rug cleaner that takes the scent away- very important for boys! Also, the Latch Key Dog was a good starter book. There is another one by some monks that is supposed to be good. Just remember...you have to be the alpha or he will take that spot. Watch the Dog Whisperer- use the whisper and the universal,"AHH!" Works for dogs and children. Hey you taught fourth grade...you know the ropes. Don't be smowed by those big brown eyes...the dog's that is. Be snowed by those other big brown eyes every day!

Oh and PS We taught Ollie very quickly to "tell us" when he needed to go out. You have to give them a language. When he gets up from a nap in the crater- the first thing his little feet should feel is grass and the comman,"Do business" or "Pee" or whatever you decide to call it. The word becomes the action and really, Ollie will go on command.
and...pss...if you do have to get up in the wee hours- no voice or language other thn the command to pee. That why he understands it isn't time to get up and play.

  5. Congrats on your FIRST little boy!

I'll certainly be the last to give much advice on raising a dog because, well... you've met Jacob.
    --Crate training is a sanity-saver.
--I'll send you whatever books I have because God knows I won't be reading them at this point!
--"Nature's Miracle" (white bottle red lettering) from the the pet store is great for those little accidents.

Enjoy the puppy-ness. It's gone all too soon!
