It Happens

As I headed out the door this morning, Jason looked at me with a weary but hopeful look and said, "Well, it's a new day..."

I replied, "...Just waiting for new catastrophes."

His face fell and I realized that wasn't where he was going with that statement. "Oh," I asked, "How were you going to finish that sentence?"

"Well," he answered, "I was going to say that it's a new day full of hope and possibilities."

This, my friends, pretty much sums up our wildly different mindsets these days. And my sweet husband's face as I played the gloom and doom part once again told me that I need to snap out of this pity party pretty dang quick.

Yesterday was a doozy of a day. Travis of The Geek Squad told me that there is a good possibility Laptop might have a virus. I'm pretty sure this isn't anything orange juice and rest can cure. Also, our washing machine caught on fire.

Yup. OUR WASHING MACHINE CAUGHT ON FIRE.

Y'all, at this point, I cannot make this stuff up. I had gone out to check on Lola and the kittens when I heard a fuse blow. I came back inside to find the mudroom full of smoke and Jason cursing. Apparently, the washing machine and dryer have been creating a current between them which causes them to weld together and CATCH ON FIRE.

So you can see why I was more than a little glum this morning. Still, I've been known to throw some pretty rockin' pity parties and then stay there. I'm that annoying guest that won't leave. But it's time to leave.

I'll leave you with the wisdom of Sugarland that encouraged me this morning, followed by some good words o' God as well. Because shouldn't the irreverent lyrics of Sugarland always be tailed by Scripture? That's what I thought.

Missed my alarm clock ringing,
Woke up telephone screaming,
Boss man singing his same old song.
Rolled in late about an hour,
No cup of coffee, no shower,
Walk of shame with two different shoes on.

Now it's poor me,
why me,
oh me,
boring,
The same old worn out, blah blah story
There's no good explanation for it at all!

Ain't no rhyme or reason,
No complicated meaning,
Ain't no need to over think it
Let go laughing.
Life don't go quite like you planned it
We try so hard to understand it,
Irrefutable, indisputable.
The fact is...Psssh...It happens!

Hebrews 12:1-3
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Dear Sweet still newly wed- these are not disasters...they are adventures that prepare you for disasters so that when the real disasters strike you can look at them and laugh and be glad that they aren't really disasters either...learn that laughter and use it everyday...like when I was prepareing dinner and talking on the phone and I sloshed hot olive oil onto the hot burner and created a stunning blaze and while not putting the hone down I called to dave who dashed in and helped me collect myself enough to throw salt or baking soda or whatever it is you throw on blazes...at the monet I laughed hard and continued my phone conversation...Dave laughed later and wondered about me. And dear girl, in our fourth year I too burned up a washing machine..not my own but one in our rental house...what fun i say here today at the 28 year anniversary...what fun it all is in retrospect. Breath deeply and know you are loved and prayed for and time with your on is all that really matters.

ok pity party girl! I would like to go on record saying I HAVE, I know I have commented on your blog before so no pitying yourself cause of that. (in response to your comment on stateside blog) J/K.
Anyways Lu - no more room for pity cause you are going to need every corner of that heart of yours empty enough for the level of excitment and the amount of lovin' on your gonna get this weekend. I love you and can't wait to see you! I'm saving all my estrogen up (cause who I am kidding I don't use any of it these days with the 2 boys except for my random tearful breakdowns upon discovering I cannot find my shoe or whatever it happens to be that day) for this weekend - some good girly time.
